Randy has 35 years of experience working in the areas of international fisheries sustainability, seafood certification and ranking criteria, fish stock assessment, monitoring, escapement goal evaluation and run forecasting. With ForSeas Solutions, he provides scientific and technical support for Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) fishery certifications and Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) in salmon fisheries of Kamchatka, Sakhalin and Khabarovsk regions of the Russian Far East. In addition, he provides support for shellfish fisheries along the US Pacific Coast and Gulf of Mexico being assessed for potential MSC certification. Randy is currently founder and fisheries advisor at RP Ericksen Consulting. Previously, he worked as a fishery manager and researcher with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game; fishery consultant with Cramer Fish Sciences; salmon management specialist with the Wild Salmon Center; and Fisheries Science Director with Ocean Outcomes. Randy has consulted with MSC, Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program, Fair Trade and the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) on seafood certification/ranking criteria, and is a certified MSC Fishery Team Member. He recently completed assessments of likely impacts of climate change impacts to global wild salmon markets, and the effectiveness of tuna fishery improvement efforts in Indonesia. Randy received a M.S. degree in Fisheries Science from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
